Marc Landy is professor of political science at Boston College. He holds a PhD in government from Harvard University. He was the recipient of the 2009 Teaching Award chosen by the student members of the Boston College chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. His most recent book is Keeping the Republic: A Defense of American Constitutionalism (University Press of Kansas, 2024), coauthored with Dennis Hale. Hale and Landy’s article, “Taming the Modern,â€� appeared in the Winter 2024 issue of Public Affairs, and their review essay, “Blaming the Refâ€� appeared in the Winter 2024 issue of the Claremont Review of Books. His article, “The Presidency in  History, Leading from the Eye of the Storm,â€� coauthored with Sidney Milkis, appears in The Presidency and the Political System (CQ Press, 2020). His other books include Presidential Greatness (University Press of Kansas, 2000), coauthored with Sidney Milkis, American Government: Enduring Principles, Critical Choices (Cambridge University Press, 2018), and The Environmental Protection Agency: Asking the Wrong Questions (Oxford University Press, 1994), coauthored with Marc Roberts and Steve Thomas.

Dennis Hale is professor of political science at Boston College. He completed his undergraduate work at Oberlin College and received a PhD in political science from the City University of New York Graduate Center in 1977. He has taught at Boston College since 1978, is a former department chair, and was for several years the director of undergraduate studies and director of the honors program in political science. He has published essays on local government, American political thought, public administration, and the modern experience of citizenship. With Marc Landy, he has edited two volumes of essays by the French political scientist Bertrand de Jouvenel: The Nature of Politics (Transaction, 1992), and Economics and the Good Life: Essays on Political Economy (Transaction, 1999). His most recent book with Marc Landy is Keeping the Republic: A Defense of American Constitutionalism (University Press of Kansas, 2024). He is also the author of The Jury in America: Triumph and Decline (University Press of Kansas, 2016).  His essays and reviews have appeared in the Political Science Quarterly, PS, Society, the Journal of Politics, the American Political Science Review, State and Local Government Review, Polity, Administration and Society, the Political Science Reviewer, the Washington Post, and Newsday.
