The recent assassination attempt against senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay and subsequent violence highlight Colombia鈥檚 deepening political polarization鈥攁 trend exacerbated by President Gustavo Petro鈥檚 divisive rhetoric and governing approach.

Petro鈥檚 confrontational approach has met significant legislative opposition, with Colombia鈥檚 Congress voting down several structural reforms. Recently, the Colombian Senate blocked Petro鈥檚 proposed national referendum on labor laws, though the president continues to pursue the measure. Meanwhile, Colombia faces mounting challenges: coca production has surged to record levels, criminal organizations have expanded their territorial control, and the country鈥檚 fiscal deficit is growing.

Enrique Pe帽alosa, who served two terms as mayor of Bogot谩 and is a pre-candidate for the country鈥檚 presidency, will join Hudson鈥檚 Daniel Batlle to examine Colombia鈥檚 political environment and discuss how to resolve the country鈥檚 legislative gridlock.
