One of the country’s foremost experts on American politics and elections, Michael Barone is a senior political analyst at the Washington Examiner and an Emeritus Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute. In addition to co-authoring the Almanac of American Politics (released annually), Mr. Barone has published several books on American politics, including most recently, How America’s Political Parties Change (and How They Don’t). »ªÌå»á Distinguished Fellow Walter Russell Mead will moderate the conversation.

The 2016 and 2020 elections unsettled many foundational assumptions about American politics. President Donald J. Trump’s successful appeal to white voters without a college education and recent electoral gains among minorities mirrored the Democratic Party’s gains in suburban areas. This shift has led some conservatives to advocate new policies to appeal to working class voters instead of middle-class suburbanites. It is unclear how important this realignment is, however, or if pursuing this pathway is a viable strategy.
